| As many of you know, PPSSPP runs horrible on phones, sometimes it doesn't even run at all. But when you run PPSSPP on a machine that could be 8 years old, it can run ES just fine. Why? It actually has to do more with the architecture of the CPU inside your phone than the performance of it. And not only that, the GPU inside your phone matters too. Android phones usually run on ARM, a type of CPU designed for low powered computers - phones and many many more devices. The problem is that PPSSPP for ARM isn'tnearly) as efficient as the x86 version is that we all run on our computers. The reason as to why is just as good as mine - I have no idea. I guess they just don't put that much time into developing a proper port of PPSSPP. The CPU isn't the only reason why PPSSPP struggles on phones. The GPU also has an impact on performance - and more often than not the GPU is more than capable of handling PPSSPP, but why does it perform so poorly when it's more than obvious that most phone GPU's could handle it? Drivers. Most OEM's spend little time implementing video drivers into their phones - especially in efficient ways. You can't update the video drivers in Android like you can in Windows, and that is a huge problem because you are stuck with crappy drivers that do not function to their fullest. The most you could hope for is a ROM update that includes better video drivers, but it is rare that new video drivers come out for Android devices. And that's it. PPSSPP runs like total sh*t because of slow and anemic development, and anemic GPU drivers that don't get the love they deserve. Kind of sad really. I just got a ZTE Zmax Pro that has an OCTACORE, yes EIGHT cores and a good GPU with it, but it can't play ES at full speeds because of the problems listed above. :( That's just how it is I guess. Hopefully we could go on PPSSPP website and prod the developers and hopefully get them to work on the ARM port a little more. | |

| I wonder how PPSSPP runs on x86 android devices. I would say worse, as they probably do not have an x86 android port, and it would run on Android's Houdini. | |

Actually, you're wrong. There is a x86 version of PPSSPP for Android devices and it runs just as good as the desktop. If you've seen my video on YouTube of ES playing online on Android, it's using my x86 Android tablet. At least they ported that over.

| Huh, did not know they had a native version. That's cool. If it ran on Houdini it would suck. | |

| What about Intel's Atom processors, I know they're not powerful but at least they aren't ARM. How does PPSSPP perform on these processors.
Intel still produce these mobile processors even they support LTE but for some reason they aren't popular.

| Most Android apps are built for ARM devices. x86 devices such as Intel Atom-based devices must use a layer known as Houdini to run it, which implies performance loss. That's one reason for them not to be that much liked.
Also, as Anubis said, there's an x86 Android version of PPSSPP which runs just fine. Don't use the ARM version, performance will most likely suck.

| Performance on newer Intel Atom devices is just as good as Core 2 Duo based computers. Again, the tablet I tested PPSSPP on with a x86 CPU had the Intel Atom in it. My "netbook" also has an Intel Atom in it and it runs PPSSPP just fine. | |

| Huh. ARM doesn't run that bad though, provided you have a well-spec'd device. I can say it runs fine for me on my Tab S 8.4 (4*1.9GHz + 4*1.3GHz, don't remember the model or brand, was it an Exynos?). Though I never play there, considering how much better it runs on my x86 devices. | |

| Even on high end devices PPSSPP has trouble. Certain devices run it very good because the drivers are good, but that can't be said for the majority of Android devices.
Hm, a proper port to IOS should work well as long as Apple doesn't fucking lock out JIT.(Which they already have the last time I've heard)
