PostSubject: Bought a SSD for my laptop :)   Wed Sep 23, 2015 10:12 pm

So, a few weeks ago, I bought a new SSD for my laptop and boy is it fast!
200 Read and 170 write, just because my laptop uses SATA 2.0 and not 3.0, but it's much faster than a physical drive.

I've heard nothing but shitty things about SSHD's, so I just bought a SSD instead. Only around 84 dollars. Worth it to me.

It does look good, sorry for not taking a picture of the drive. They are metal and feel nice to hold.

also, Idk, can I defrag an SSHD? I don't really know. I mean, it has some SSD part.... I'd be wearing it down, right?

Idk, I know SSDs don't need defragging as they don't have moving parts or physical disks, hybrids though?? Idk.

I guess the HDD part could be defragged, but it'd also try to defrag the SSD cache which would wear it down eventually.

I would advise against defragging a SSHD, since the drive cannot tell whether you are writing to the disk or just defragging.

it shouldn't be too bad, well at least I think defragging an SSD is still worse.

It will wear out the SSD cache in the SSHD, since it doesn't know the difference. So it would be better to just buy a SSD or HDD, that way you can defrag to regain performance, or you don't need to defrag at all.

I might get one of these tho:
http://hddcaddy.com/en/toshiba-hdd-caddy/1043-hdd-caddy-for-toshiba-qosmio-x70-.html

And then get an ssd. I don't use the optical drive too often. Problem is, I think that's not the same color as my laptop, and I really like the red and black thing XD

Haha! We think alike don't we!

I ordered mine for my Macbook a few days ago, it's arriving tomorrow. Can't wait.

Just upgraded my RAM today, it's now from 4GB, and now 6GB.

1x2GB DDR3 DIM 1066MHz - Kingston
1x4GB DDR3 DIM 1333MHz - Samsung

250GB SSD. Haha, now all I need to do is buy a 1TB laptop drive. My laptop is a beast now.

Nice, I might also get some more RAm, but Im not sure how many slots my laptop has (some people say 4, others say 2). I have to check it. Also, u cant remove the keyboard on my laptop, and some ppl say the Qosmio x70-B-10T has the slots under the keyboard... Still, Im ok with 16GB.

Most laptops only have 2 slots. Mine has 2. You don't get to the RAM by opening the bottom of your laptop? Lol, the last time I lifted a keyboard up to get to my RAM was on a iBook G4.

well, I'm not sure, I've read it, some ppl say it has two slots under the keyboard and at the bottom, others say it only has 2 under the keyboard and some say it has two at the bottom. Well, anyway, I read a little bit more (found the HDD replacement official Toshiba guide for my model) and I saw the RAM in the picture. Also, I found that I don't need a caddy, cuz I have a 2nd HDD bay :D

That sucks ass. So you can't order most sh*t online in your country? Amazon and Ebay are the biggest places. If Amazon will not deliver, try Ebay, and if they even don't, then I guess you're SOL.
